Trip report by Richard Coe
The Relative Hills Society enjoyed a fantastic day out on 3rd August, travelling aboard a fast RIB skippered by Struan Smith of Coastal Connections. With an early 07:15 departure from Oban and fine weather overhead, we made swift progress towards Scarba — a private island lying just north of Jura. We landed at the small harbour at the island’s northern end and followed a vehicle track past Kilmory Lodge before picking up a boggy path. Soon we were on rougher ground, as so often happens in these parts, following a stone wall that helpfully guided us almost all the way to the summit of Cruach Scarba. Unfortunately, the top was shrouded in clag, but spirits remained high — a prized Marilyn had been conquered.

Our second hill of the day was Cruachan Charna on the small private island of Carna. The crossing took us through the Sound of Mull, offering superb views of Mull, Morvern, and Ardnamurchan. Landing on the eastern shore, we quickly made our way to the summit, rewarded with panoramic views in every direction — hillwalking at its finest.
The final climb was Carn Breugach, Kerrera, which provided wonderful vistas across the Oban area.
Many thanks to all members who joined the trip — it was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable day out.
